He sneers that only ‘people with jets’ will be asked to contribute more (though these same jet owners already pay 40% of ALL taxes paid to the U.S. government already). What he doesn’t mention is that he will also increase taxes on those earning a mere $250,000 as well. Those are not jet owners. Those are not even rich in today’s’ world. George Soros, with his billions, is rich. And he is Obama’s good friend. Now why would Obama raise taxes on his friend? Because, my friend, the truly wealthy don’t pay taxes at all. Their money is locked up in off shore companies, shell companies, and clever schemes. Soros laughs at taxes. Only the hard working, sweating small business owner will be crushed by the new taxes proposed by Obama & the Dems. And they are the ENGINE of the economy. Hmmmm….
Author, Susan Shannon, gives a slide show of the world’s newest wonder: Singapore’s “Sky Park”. “Look what Man can Do? If we can do this, then why do small problems like politics, hunger, energy and war exist?” she ponders.
Tuesday Brown took a hard left on the Obama Socialist Ave and signed a bill to tax Internet sales. Add the state sales taxes onto your shipping costs and it’s not worthwhile to shop Internet. Cigars have 40 cents added onto each one already before shipping. Amazon has more than 10,000 affiliates in the state and has said that when the law becomes effective they are out.
Amazon: “We oppose this bill because it is unconstitutional and counterproductive. It is supported by big-box retailers, most of which are based outside California, that seek to harm the affiliate advertising programs of their competitors. As a result, we will terminate contracts with all California residents that are participants in the Amazon Associates Program as of the date (if any) that the California law becomes effective.”
Job claims today were 428,000, again more than expected. Why wouldn’t these people be expecting higher to help soften the blow? Obama is once again back to his taxing job producers, why is Amazon moving out of California and surrendering the jobs? Better stated, why don’t Obama and his minions realize why?

Is Obama the New LBJ?
Don Surber has in interesting post comparing Barack Obama to LBJ:
While Obama sees himself as a black JFK — and anymore, he rides on his race in a way he did not 4 years ago — and some of us pegged his enemies list as Nixonian — Obama is more like a mini-LBJ.
Obama’s casual entry into the Libyan War — he barely interrupted his vacation to start it — is similar to Vietnam, except for the part about getting congressional permission. As awful as the Gulf of Tonkin Resolution was, it at least gave constitutional authority to the presidnet to bomb the crap out of a Third World nation. We made two mistakes in Vietnam: Going in and pulling out.
LBJ, too, was hard on the opposition press.
Johnson too interfered with private enterprise.
But it was the expansion of government — Public Broadcasting, Medicare and Medicaid, in particular — that marked the Johnsonian presidency. (The EPA, OSHA and other agencies would be added under Nixon.) Our nation is still crippled by the expense of Medicare and Medicaid. Indeed, Medicaid crushes many a state budget as well as the federal budget.
There is something to this, but Surber misses the core essence of what Obama is all about. To understand Obama, we need to see what is missing from the Obama-LBJ equation: left-wing protestors.
The hippies, yippies, anarchists, flower children, SDS, the Weathermen, and even many civil rights workers of the 1960s hated American society, the American culture, and the American political establishment. Growing up in the conservative 1950s, they remembered the era of Jim Crow and McCarthyism. Afterwards, they were inspired and then heartbroken by John Kennedy. Given this, they readily observed the hypocrisy of their parents and the establishment, and they despised what they saw.
In truth, they were on to something. There was a lot of ugliness lurking under the sunny conformism of the 1950s. It pretended to be a moral decade, but even some of the most religious of Americans were at best only Sunday Christians. Many Americans were not even that–they practiced a civil religion which spoke of God, but they did not live under any real moral standards in their business and personal lives.
This is what the leftists were on about. Yet, they failed to see their own hypocrisy. They failed to see that the problem was the evil of the human heart–an evil we all share. To the leftists, they and they alone were good. On the other hand, the greatest evil in America was LBJ, because to them he represented everything they thought was wrong with the US. He is hated by many of them even today.
There was no logic to this hatred, as LBJ stood for nearly all of the things they stood for, and his policies were policies passed down to him by Kennedy, their great hero.
From a visceral standpoint, LBJ reminded them of their parents and of the conformity of the 1950s–the very things they hated most. At the same time, the protestors had been co-opted–actually, duped–by Marxist professors and academics. These communists were not so concerned with capitalists, as they believed that capitalism would flounder under its own weight, and ultimately give way to communism. Instead, their worst enemies were the liberals and the socialists, as they would keep capitalism afloat through compromise.
Hence, LBJ was hated and protested, and the 1968 Democratic convention was disrupted, while Nixon and the Republicans were pretty much ignored. Humphrey lost the 1968 election by a whisker, simply because he was associated with LBJ. This was an election that Humphrey would have won, if it were not for the left.
Barack Obama’s mother was one of those leftists. He was weaned not on the liberalism of LBJ or Humphrey, but on a hatred of American life.
But Obama is in fine company here. In the 1970s, the leftists went mainstream and took over the media, academia, and even quite a bit of the business in the US. They wore suits and ties, but kept their old tie-died tee-shirts in a box in the closet along with their photos of Woodstock, and a few left-over joints and a roach clip “just in case”.
Some of these people came to their senses and have realized that America–with all of its hypocrisies and contradictions–is a pretty good place to live, and those communist and socialist states they once admired were, are, and will always be, failed states that can only survive through repression and the limiting of debate.
Others keep the faith. They still have not come to grips with their own hypocrisy and their own compromises: They hate others too much to look in the mirror and see what they themselves are. In many ways, they are like Robespierre–no matter how excessive they become in their thoughts and actions, they still believe in the bright future they profess, and will continue to do so even when their compatriots lead them to the guillotine. They have not come to grips with the evil that is in man’s heart–the evil that is in their own heart.
Certainly, Obama cannot be thinking of himself as the new LBJ. Everything he has uttered suggests that he views himself in Marxist terms–he is part of the vanguard reshaping America, making it in his eyes “less evil”. His own hypocrisies and contradictions are unnoticed by him and by those bitterly clinging to the leftist tropes of the 1960s. Since these people are not “the man”, objectively they must be good and what they are doing is always for the best. And like all true believers, no amount of evidence will ever convince them otherwise.
They–and he–have become what they despise the most.
Obama: “The Corporate Jets Did It.”
Rule Number 12 in the Progressives’ Bible, Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky, states:
Pick the target, freeze it, personalize it, and polarize it. Cut off the support network and isolate the target from sympathy. Go after people and not institutions; people hurt faster than institutions. (This is cruel, but very effective. Direct, personalized criticism and ridicule works.)
Yesterday, during a rare morning press conference, President Barack Hussein Obama (mm mmm mmmm) did just that. Continuing his administration’s ongoing domestic strategy of Class Warfare, he said America’s economoic problems all come down to the battle between taking care of America’s children and flying corporate jets.
You read correctly.
Obama had to come up with something to try to win the ongoing battle with Congress concerning raising the Debt Ceiling. Evidently, this was the best that he and his staff could come up with.
You see, Obama, in pandering to his base, tried to make his argument as simplistic as possible, i.e.:
Democrats love kids – Republicans love corporate jets.
Democrats good – Republicans eeeevil.
This was a very obvious and somewhat pitiful attempt by Obama and his party to put the Republicans on the defensive after they have portrayed Obama as a tax-raiser and Big-Government Power Broker.
In reality, it appeared that the president was the one playing defense yesterday, and with good reason, per rasmussenreports.com:
A generic Republican candidate now holds a four-point lead over President Obama in a hypothetical 2012 election matchup. It’s the fifth week in a row that the GOP candidate has been ahead and the widest gap between the candidates to date.
The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds a generic Republican candidate earns support from 46% of Likely U.S. Voters, while the president picks up 42% of the vote. Three percent (3%) prefer some other candidate, and nine percent (9%) are undecided.
Last week, the Republican held a 45% to 43% advantage. In weekly surveys since the beginning of May, support for Obama has ranged from 42% to 45%, while the Republican has earned 43% to 46% of the vote.
During the press conference, Obama, in a pedantic tone, brought up the death of Osama bin Laden, in order to poke at Congress to get back to work:
I’ve been doing Afghanistan, bin Laden and the Greek crisis. You stay here. Let’s get it done.
Yeah, boys, git ‘er done. Meanwhile, Scooter, Moochelle, and the kids will be on vay-cay, per boston.com:
For the first family, their Vineyard haven is taking on the flavor of a summer White House. President Obama, for the third straight year, is planning to return to Martha’s Vineyard for vacation this summer, according to a White House official.
The Obamas are scheduled to spend seven to 10 days on the island in mid- to late August, according to the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of security concerns.
Arrangements for White House staff members and Secret Service personnel who travel with the Obamas have been made.
But, I digress
Continuing his theme of attacking republicans as eeeevil Corporate Fat Cats yesterday, Obama proclaimed:
If we do not have revenues, that means there are a bunch of kids out there who do not have college scholarships. [It] might compromise the National Weather Services. It means we might not be funding critical medical research. It means food inspection might be compromised. I’ve said to Republican leaders, You go talk to your constituents and ask them, ‘Are you willing to compromise your kids’ safety so some corporate-jet owner can get a tax break?’
Obama used the corporate jet attack at least 4 times before he even took a second question.
That’s pretty funny, considering this excerpt from the Associated Press from 2009:
Just a few months after lawmakers scolded auto executives for flying to Washington in private jets, Congress approved a tax break in the stimulus package to help businesses buy their own planes.
The incentive — first used to help plane makers recover from the 2001 terror attacks — sharply reduces the up front tax bill for companies who buy assets like business planes
Evidently, like Obama’s promises, the stimulus bill had an expiration date, also.
Obama’s rhetoric during yesterday’s presser was noticably sharper than it has been.
Normally, the former collegiate Constitutional Law Guest Lecturer and his handlers have been very careful to portray Obama as a amicable, middle-of-the-road leader, who just happens to be smarter than you and me.
For instance, when asked about New York’s new gay marriage law yesterday, he replied that it was a states-rights issue, saying:
Each community is going to be different. Each state is going to be different.
Regarding the ongoing budget and debt ceiling battle going on in Congress, Obama remarked:
The question now is, are we going to step up and get this done?
Call me naive. but my expectation is leaders are going to lead.
Obama’s problem, as a sitting president going into this campaign cycle, is one brought about by the following harsh reality: He has been president since January 2009. He owns this economy.
He knows it. His handlers know it. His political party knows it.
However, the American people are having to live with it.
